Community Leaders Honored at World Humanitarian Day Celebration in Los Angeles

To commemorate World Humanitarian Day, we welcomed 84 guests for an evening honoring those who apply their compassion and skills to help others.

The celebration began with a reception in the ASHO Courtyard, where our VM Cavalcade was set up, showcasing courses that train individuals in VM tools. Guests scanned codes to sign up for online courses, discovering all the ways they could make a difference.

The event opened with a stirring rendition of the national anthem. Guests then learned about the global Volunteer Minister Program and the VMs’ heroic efforts during the LA Fires. A federal official spoke, praising the tireless work of the VMs, noting their dedication during one of the largest natural disasters in US history. The highlight was the World Humanitarian Awards. Honorees included leaders of the Bangladeshi community, executives from Latinos Unidos Los Angeles Foundation, members of the Global Empowerment Movement and the President of Inner City Shakespeare Ensemble, who has shared her love of the arts with thousands of inner-city youth over three decades.

Each awardee received a volume from the Ron Series, celebrating LRH’s life and the humanitarian programs he initiated. One of the awardees was so impressed with all the Church does that he remarked, “My team and I stand by the Church of Scientology from now until forever.”

It was a night filled with purpose and the joy of uplifting others.
