Scientology Volunteer Ministers Help the Local Community with a Food Drive

The Church of Scientology of Los Angeles Volunteer Ministers hosted a food distribution where anyone experiencing food insecurity was welcome to come and pick up a free box of groceries for themselves and their family.

The Scientology Volunteer Minister program, written by L. Ron Hubbard in the mid 1970′s, has the purpose to help those in need.

If one does not like the crime, cruelty, injustice and violence of this society, he can do something about it. He can become a VOLUNTEER MINISTER and help civilize it, bring it conscience and kindness and love and freedom from travail by instilling into it trust, decency, honesty and tolerance.” — L. Ron Hubbard

And that is exactly what they are still doing in 2021, right here in Los Angeles.

Even though the COVID-19 pandemic may be coming to an end, there are still thousands of Angelenos facing social and economic duress, with 1 in 4 experiencing a lack of access to affordable and nutritious food.

And so, the Scientology Volunteer Ministers of Los Angeles have decided to do something about it!

Since April, the Church’s Volunteer Minister corps have been teaming up with the Guatemalan Chamber of Commerce for Los Angeles, hosting regular food drives providing food to anyone in East Hollywood that needs it.

Thousands of people have been helped in this way as a result. This Saturday alone, hundreds were serviced with fresh groceries to take home.

And all of this goodwill has not gone unnoticed: The Scientology Volunteer Ministers were presented with a Certificate of Recognition from the Board of Public Works of the City of Los Angeles, thanking them for their community service efforts to get through the pandemic together!

The food drives have also gained popularity on social media with followers from all walks of life messaging in with likes and positivity:

“This looks like such a good way to help people with their lives. Many thanks to Scientology Los Angeles for their caring, kindness and great love felt here today.”

“This brought tears to my eyes! Scientologists are feeding thousands of families in need. Wow! My hat is off to them!

Spot on, just exactly what this community needs more than ever. Hope you repeat! Thank you! Really I mean it, THANK Y-O-U!”

I recognize the place from that @ScientologyTV show on DIRECTV - THANK YOU!!!”

And this is only the beginning of the movement — the next food drive is scheduled for Saturday, July 31st from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Church of Scientology of Los Angeles parking lot, located at 4810 W. Sunset Blvd in East Hollywood — All are welcome!
